Summary of projects
Evaluation
Stephen Bronze
During this assignment it has come across many challenges, a main challenge is logo design especially when it is related to sports, the reason for this is because I’ve never been particularly skilled in these responsibility. This brief has made me work in a short amount of time at a fast pace it has also opened up my eyes to how real clients expect work and how fast they want it. This brief has made me be more rational with thinking and it instead of just thinking about ideas I have created multiple of them which has resulted in multiple interesting experiments. Working this brief has helped me develop skills in and knowledge in to sport and opened up my eyes to sports design. What made this assignment easier is the communication I was lucky to have the client and the fact that he knew what he wanted made this easier. Overall I am happy with the customer as is he and because of this I’ve now been asked to create his advertising campaigns. The main lesson from this brief which I learnt is don’t limit yourself to what your used to just because you’re comfortable doing that particular area otherwise you’ll never learn new things.
Amanda Collins
This brief which I took on, is something that I’m used to doing and where my comfortabilities sat when it comes to designing, however this brief did not compare to the work which I did for Stephen. The reason for this was because I went with what I knew straight away and didn’t experiment properly which resulted in a pretty, but basic outcome. Even though the client was, I wasn’t proud of the work that I carried out this is learning curve for myself. The client Amanda was a delight to work for however what also made this assignment difficult was the lack of communication, as she had no phone so everything was over email which she only replied to once so because of this, this is also why I went with something I was comfortable with. However, the imagery and colour choice works with the company as it’s a natural tropical cream company selling hand creams etc. for this I created a collage and digitally enhanced, from magazines. Although the client liked her designs a common theme which I’m noticing is being under pressure with time and the fact that I don’t work well like that, this is learning curve that I will take into third year.
YCN
This was the individual brief which I choose to do ‘Craft academy’ looking back through my portfolio I noticed how I lacked packaging design and packaging design is something that I was interested in so because of this I wanted to work on this brief. For this brief I found it particularly insightful seeing the beers which were already out there that were very much sexualised with women and how inappropriate they are. It is for the reason its inspired me to carry out a study which will be presented on my PPP blog. I enjoyed carrying out this brief as found it interesting and a challenge to create sexual beers that were not so blatant and crude without using a women’s figure. Once again what I did notice In this process was a lack of experimentation which I was disappointed with we can see this when it comes to further development in my final outcomes. Overall I was happy with my outcomes but I wish I took more time in creating them as they feel rushed, I would do this if I did this assignment again.
YCN Collaborative
This collaborative brief was one of my largest struggles, it’s always hard working with someone who you don’t know very well, but this is a process which I enjoyed. We found it difficult to meet up at the same time so this meant that we both did some work separately. However, we did end up coming together to help with the final resolution. I’ve been disappointed with myself with this brief as I feel that I have been lazy and I’ve let myself down, and because of this I’m know working on the collective brief with the same partner again to prove that I do work good in a group. If I were to do this again I would take on more work and push and make more effort.
Overall a major factor of these briefs is my time management, it is because of this factor I have failed to develop really good out comes and experiments, this is something I will majorly thinking about and develop working. However, although the process may not be perfect, the final outcomes which I have produced for the clients they have really liked and used in return, this has now created me networks.
Evaluation - Summarising PPP
Over summer
Over summer I will be working on the KNF Festival in a studio in East Street arts, focusing most of my time into creating professional advertising whilst recruiting a team to help. Creating agreements and applications for jobs for the company.
Over summer I will also be working on my social media constantly posting up and coming work along with our collaborative page & digital or traditional page.
Joining East street arts I will also be visiting exhibitions and art festivals to expand my knowledge of the design industry I will also be taking placement opportunities and continuing creating typography.
This year, I have learnt to work collaboratively within a group, I've found what i want to do in the future and I've finally started to get my work on social media successfully. A major part of my learning is that networking online and visiting studios is ultimately the most important thing as a designer as thats where designers and customers find you. The rest of the year I will be very much under pressure to focus on so many things at once but as a designer this is what its like having a number of projects at once and it prepares me for industry.
For future I want to visit more design studios and museums of art which I am interested in.

East Street Arts - Studio Brief 01 - A Creative Strategy Page
Recently I've started a membership with East street arts in leeds, the reason for doing this is because of my lack of awareness for events and exhibitions that are on local and abroad and I want to be more involved because it will expand my knowledge and it will also help networking opportunities. East street arts also has studio available from when i live back home and I have rented out a studio for when i go back home so i have a place to work, this is helpful when it comes to working for companies and working on briefs for clients this will also be appropriate as it will look like a professional environment which will help you look more established as a designer. During time over summer, I want to visit exhibitors and travel round city's to create a more creative knowledge of different and practical art.

Online Social media
Sway
During time at uni over the past 2 years I've understood the importance of getting your work out there to a professional standard it is for this reason I have created a number of social media accounts to help networking and communications.
Sway is a portfolio site attached to my email this account displays inspirations as a designer, and my practical ways of thinking, artist such as Stefan Sagmeister and David carson the so called typical artists young designers talk about. However I am deeply inspired by there practical way of thinking. Design is fairly flat faced and boring these days and Sagmesiter and Carson, experiment with natural environments and materials to create there art work, the belief i have is that practical and physical design is far more unique than digital design it creates more reality and emotion. Another passion is typography, an artists such as there selfs specialise in this area through practical methods, it is this reason why the type I will be creating over the next years will be inspired by these typical artists.

Facebook, I would say is out to date because of account such as Instagram and Behance, however older crowds and big corporate businesses still use Facebook, the work I produce i want all generations and people to like and see so it is for this reason that I have created a Facebook page.

Behance
Behance Portfolio is a site which you can post all your work in a more professional manor so that all your work can be seen by studios, company's and artists this website is also used as inspiration and I also find that i find more inspiration from this site than i do from famous artists and artists tend to follow the same path and design method. Behance is full of young designers with new ways of thinking, precisely why I've choose to join. From joining this site I've had emails and messages about opportunities to create work and be apart of exhibitions, this way of sharing work helps network and get in touch witch other creatives.

Online Portfolio

Instagram is a site which is constantly evolving since Instagram came along sites such as Twitter & Facebook have now been shadowed into the background. Instagram is a photo based site and many designers and professionals use this site, i use this site to showcase my work and network with creatives, I also use this site as an opportunity to showcase my other sites which gains more attraction.

From gaining knowledge in Lecturers I've realised the important's of being on social media and since i've began posting everything online it has helped me expand knowledge of the professional life and ways of thinking. It has also opened opportunities to work and collaboration over summer. It is for this reason that it's essential to be on social media especially in this technology day and age, to be a successful designer.
Collective
Collective
Katie Ayers + Eve O'Neil
Previously me and Katie had worked on a brief together and we felt that we both needed to expand on are communications skills it is for this reason that we choose to work on this brief together.
For are collective we wanted to create a publication, that was feminine in a boutique style yet we wanted it to look elegant. We decided to create a publication which was showcasing are work as individuals due to are interests being in the same styles.

I carried out some experiments, we decided to use the circle shape as an idea of bringing us together, a circle is quite a friendly shapes as its round unlike triangles which are very sharp. I also experimented with typefaces as we weren't sure what type of typeface we wanted to use firstly we were thinking of a serif types face but then decide to change it to san serif as it looks more boutique.

We both then decide that we wanted to use pastel colours to create the designs as in a publication they looked best as there not to vibrant or in your face. It is for this reason that we choose to make the following design decisions.

Joint Instagram
From this we then also created a join online social media account, as from past research I've found out that working as a collaborative partnership is important and it also attracts more interest of other artists. This is something me and Katie have both agreed to keep running through uni and after uni this could possibly turn into a business in the future.

From creating experiments we then pieced together the type, colour and shapes and then started to create the publication to create a monotone simplistic booklet. Overall myself and Katie are happy with the booklet design and have decided to further expand on this project over summer and third year. Are aim is to develop a body of work and tasks for are selfs to develop are collective and get more people involved.

Studio Brief 01 - A Creative Strategy Page - Traditional or digital design
Digital or Traditional design?
During a COP project i created an argument, arguing how digital design is taking over industry and how i disagreed that this was the right way forward as designers.
From this I have now made this site official and have copywrited the idea and now an owner of the site. Over summer I will be collecting work and advertising it on Instagram to get young creatives to join the site. I will be recruiting a team to help run the site and be working in a design studio in darlington which I have rented out back home over summer. The idea of the site is to only show work created in traditional methods or have use of using practical methods in there process, which does not include photoshop etc.
From emailing printing company's I have now also gained a friendship with Leeds Printing Company, and are visiting there studio to discuss a placement offer and possibility of them joining the site in which i have created. Creating this friendship will help me with networking in the future and is helping me get myself out there.
What do I want from this project?
Ideally I want to be able to create my own traditional company starting off online and then being able to open my own traditional printing studio, which creates typography. I want to have a collective of traditional designers that are interested in practical methods to try show the public and designers how traditional design is more interesting than digital, and how digital interface is not way forward.

Studio Brief 01 - A Creative Strategy Page - Berlin
Berlin Trip
This year we went on a trip to Berlin during this trip we went to a series of musieums including:
- P38 Design studio
- Hamburg
- Holocaust memorial
- Library Memorial
- Traditional print studio
During this visit we witnessed work from artists such as:
- Joseph Beuys
- Roy Lichtenstein
- Andy Warhol
During the Hamburg visit I bought a cremier magazine, this magazine is packed full of knowledge of artists in sub cultures. This magazine is inspiring for young designers.
What was noticeable in Berlin is how art was everywhere unlike the uk, the buildings were arch textual art and all different colours and advertisement was typography rather than billboard imagery, it made me think that maybe that this is the way forward for design.
Overall I really enjoyed Berlin, I found it inspirational and will be going back to Berlin in summer and be visiting the traditional print studio and carrying out a workshop. Berlin is somewhere where I will consider to go for a placement and possibly live in the future its very arty in terms of culture and i feel as a designer its important to live in a place where your inspired by the things around you and Berlin does this.
